What Are Nakshatras?
In Vedic astrology, the zodiac is divided two ways:
- 12 Rashis (signs) — same 30° divisions Western astrology knows
- 27 Nakshatras (lunar mansions) — finer 13°20' divisions, each with its own deity, archetype, and symbolic story
The Nakshatras are an older, more detailed layer of analysis. The Moon spends about 1 day in each, completing the cycle every 27 days — which is why this system is called the lunar mansions.
For personality analysis, your Moon Nakshatra (the one your Moon was in at birth) reveals the deepest emotional archetype operating beneath your conscious self.
Why Pair MBTI with Nakshatras?
MBTI gives you a cognitive type — how you think. Nakshatras give you a mythic archetype — the story your psyche is living out.
When the two map onto each other, you get an unusually rich self-portrait. An INTJ resonating with Mula Nakshatra (the root-tearing destroyer-rebuilder) lives a very different inner life from an INTJ resonating with Pushya Nakshatra (the nourishing protector).
This article is part 1 of a 16-part series. Each future post will deep-dive one MBTI type and the 2-3 Nakshatras it most resonates with.

What These Mappings Mean
Some examples to ground this:
Mula Nakshatra (the "root-tearer") describes someone who must destroy what no longer serves before they can rebuild. INTJ + Mula? You're the strategic visionary who, every 7-10 years, dynamites your life and starts over with a sharper plan.
Pushya Nakshatra (the "nourisher") describes someone whose role is to protect and feed others. INFJ + Pushya? You're the quiet advocate who notices when colleagues are about to burn out, before they do themselves.
Magha Nakshatra (the "throne") describes someone with a strong sense of lineage and inherited power. ENTJ + Magha? You feel ancestral weight on your decisions — you're not just leading for yourself, you're representing something larger.
